What are
some
activities
you can do
with your
child to
unlock their
inner dolphin?
Do emotional check-ins with each other. Ask your child how they are feeling, and give them words to help define their emotions. Model talking about your own feelings as well. Use a prompt such as “Today I felt _____ when _____ happened”.
Play the mirror game! Look in a mirror along with your child and make a facial expression. Have the child make the same facial expression and name the emotion. Switch so that your child gets a turn too!
Sing familiar songs in different emotion voices (i.e. silly, angry, sad, bored, etc.)
Do breathing exercises together or listen to an audio meditation.
Practice saying daily positive affirmations together in front of a mirror. Some examples:
I am proud of who I am.
I am brave and strong.
I can learn anything I want to learn.
I am unique and special
